The Restoration Studio is now offering a unique and flexible hands on Apprenticeship Program.
This program is only available in our Bucks County Pa Studio. If traveling to our location is not feasible for you,
Consider our online training program.
This one of a kind hands on training program is available to anyone who is serious about learning the
Art of Furniture Refinishing, Restoration or Repair
As you probably already know, getting a job or apprenticeship in the furniture restoration trade where you actually
learn something other than how to strip and sand furniture is virtually impossible. In fact, I have been told that
just getting your foot in the door of a restoration shop... period, can be nearly impossible.
What makes our Apprenticeship & Co-Op program unique
Our program is unlike any other (if you can even find another). Our Apprenticeship program runs
weekly for a very short period during the winter months. Apprentices can book and reserve a workbench
in our studio by the week, where they will be given a project to complete based on each individuals desire
to learn. The Restoration Studio will supply all jobs to be preformed, and the apprentice will be
instructed by restorer Rod Keyser throughout the project and perform all aspects of the job from start to finish.
Just tell us what you want to learn this week, and we'll work to set you up with a job that closely matches
you requests, based on the jobs we have in the studio at that time.
How does the program work...does the apprentice get paid?
Yes...This is where our program really gets interesting. Apprentices are given actual paying
customer jobs to be completed, and are considered sub contractors of The Restoration Studio.
We work with you throughout the job to make certain it's done correctly and to our standards.
When the job is finished and approved by Rod , the apprentice will be paid 50% of the invoiced
price the customer is paying for that job. In order to book a week in our studio, there is a weekly booking fee
of $150 due at the beginning of the week. An apprentice can easily learn AND make money too...all based on your
individual abilities and motivation. Some people can earn good money, while some may not.
It will depend on the individual. All apprentices will end the week having learned invaluable techniques
and procedures....and we have fun too!!
Why the Fee?
Two words....Motivation and commitment. Some Apprentices want to earn their money back...and more.
This fee is our assurance that an apprentice is serious about learning, and will most likely be motivated.
However, If an apprentice doesn't feel like doing much hands on work, and would prefer to get instruction simply
by watching and being in our studio a few days or a week, this allows them to do so without feeling obligated
to do anything. Awesome, right?
Does an apprentice need to bring their own tools or supplies?
The Restoration Studio will supply the work, tools, chemicals, equipment, etc. Apprentice supplies their own
safety equipment, such as spray masks, dust masks, apron, etc.

2012 Apprenticeship and Co-Op program starts February 1st!
